The Reunion

So this weekend I got a special treat.. I went to Nolan's family reunion. Surprisingly, he has plenty of family in Missouri and they happen to have their annual reunion just a few hours from where we live. It was so nice to finally put faces with names of people that I've been hearing about for so long. I got to meet his sweet sweet Grandma, Vera Lawrence. She was just delightful. He'd told me that she was a tall woman and boy was she!! Now I know where Nolan gets it. Her sister, Alice was there as well and she has 12 children!!!!!!! What a woman, I can't even imagine one and she's in the double digits. Of course, her kids are grown but then they told me she has over 50 grandchildren! I'm not sure how she keeps up. I met probably about 50 people while being there and can only remember a few haha.
I got to meet aunts and uncles and cousins and it was just a wonderful time. Grandma's brother Leon tried to get me to sing after he flirted with me... you have to watch out for those men in their 70s.. they're charmers ;)
Vera's great uncle, I believe was there also and he is 100 years old. It's so very interesting to be in the presence of someone who has lived that long! I can't even fathom all of the things he's seen and done. What a remarkeable thing.. I only felt bad for him when I saw a kid pushing him in his wheel chair that couldn't even see over his head! They said he's only been in the wheel chair for a couple years.. lotta miles on those legs I'm sure.

It was just so nice to witness a family come together that way. There were over 100 people there and they said that it was a small year for them. I have never been to a family reunion before and to be welcomed by so many made my heart grow like you wouldn't believe. I've just in recent years even gotten to where I really want to be around my family and not on a have to basis. I hate that it's taken me so long, and right when I'm getting so close I up and move off. But I know they are only a phone call away and we would all do anything for the other. You can't choose who you're related to, but it's a good thing I love my family! and now I get to be a part of a whole new family... I'm glad they accepted me and love me already.

Maybe I should start a Williams family reunion. Although the sad part is I only can off the top of my head think of immediate family... I guess I have to start somewhere.
